どのように最小の空間で宇宙の広大さを理解できるのか?有限の空間に無限の感覚を見出すにはどうすればよいのか?宇宙を折り畳むことは可能なのか?
2024年10月16日から11月17日までノグチ美術館で展示される移動的で可変的なインスタレーション*「folding cosmos」は、親密さと無限の相互作用に形を与え、人々が集まり熟考するための静かな空間を提供しています。

このプロジェクトにインスピレーションを与えたのは、19世紀の日本の探検家・松浦武四郎(1818-1888)が作った小さな書斎「一畳敷」の物語でした。遠く離れた友人たちが日本各地の重要な場所で集めた木材で作られたこの小さな空間は、武四郎の社会的ネットワークと、探検家とその友人達にとって意味のある場所を示す一種の地図となり、蓄積された知識と経験がひとつの充実した空間に凝縮されています。

    Miwako Kurashima invites small groups of visitors to join her in the installation to share tea and conversation, on Thursdays at 1 pm and 1:30 pm. Seats can be reserved at The Noguchi Museum front desk on the day of the program.
